James Kaminsky

Senior Editorial Director and Digital Content Strategist

James Kaminsky is a senior editorial director and digital content strategist with years of experience guiding media brands through both print and digital transitions. Throughout his career, he has managed editorial operations for well-known outlets such as Maxim, Playboy, Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal, Realtor.com, and Homes.com.

James grew up in Westport, Connecticut, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Film and Broadcast Journalism from Boston University. During college, he wrote for the campus newspaper and interned at the Boston Globe. After graduating, he moved to New York, where he began his professional career in business publishing, advancing from writer to editor. His first significant leadership role was as editor-in-chief at Act III Communications, where he led editorial teams and managed content covering entertainment, business, and technology.

Later, he shifted his focus to consumer magazines, working as a freelance contributor for respected publications. This experience paved the way for senior editorial positions at Men’s Journal and Conde Nast Sports for Women. At Men’s Journal, he was involved in developing the magazine’s early voice and content mix. His time at Conde Nast gave him insight into launching a large-scale publication from the ground up.

In 1999, James joined Maxim as executive editor, helping to guide the magazine’s successful entry into the U.S. market. His leadership played a key role in the publication’s growth and national prominence. He then moved to Playboy as editorial director, where he modernized content while staying true to the brand’s core identity.

Returning to Wenner Media, he held editorial leadership roles at Rolling Stone and Men’s Journal, where he helped shape new content strategies and oversaw digital expansion. He later returned to Maxim, adapting the brand for digital audiences and changing reader habits.

James went on to lead the editorial at Life Reimagined for AARP. He then spent over eight years as Senior Editorial Director at Realtor.com, building a digital news team and expanding the site’s audience. His most recent work at Homes.com focused on luxury urban housing content.

Outside of work, James Kaminsky enjoys cycling, hiking, films, and following the New York Jets. He currently works independently as a consultant and writer, lending his experience to various media projects.
